Our company

Digital Orthopaedics is a startup that develops digital solutions for the medical community. Created in 2016, it is based near the geographic center of Belgium, in the Axisparc Business Center.

The ambition of its founders is to revolutionize patient healthcare in orthopaedic surgery thanks to 3D simulation on the digital twin of patients feet.

Digital Orthopadics is made up of real talents in advanced and complementary skills such as predictive medicine, patient marketing, medical imaging or application development.

We are a team dedicated to improving patient treatment and outcome.

Company Management

Dr. Bruno Ferré – Co-founder & Medical Director, MD

Dr. Bruno Ferré is a full-time orthopedic surgeon specialized in foot and ankle surgery at the Medical and Surgical Orthopedic Institute of Monaco (IM2S). He is the head of the Medical Informatics Department at IM2S. Dr. Bruno Ferré is past president (2015-2016) of the French Association of Foot Surgery (AFCP) and a board member of the French Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (SOFCOT). Dr. Bruno Ferré received his medical degree in 1978 and completed specialty training in orthopedic surgery in 1983 in Nantes. He has wide-ranging research interests that cover clinical biomechanics, foot and ankle surgery and computational modeling. Dr. Bruno Ferré has authored numerous research publications, as well as book chapters dealing with various surgical treatments of foot and ankle conditions, and he has delivered numerous invited lectures internationally.

Dr. Thibaut Leemrijse – Co-founder & Medical Director, MD

Dr. Thibaut Leemrijse is a full-time orthopedic surgeon, specialized in foot and ankle surgery. After graduating in June 1999, he was awarded First Prize from the European Foot and Ankle Society EFAS-EFFORT, and he won a fellowship working with several leading doctors and researchers with the same interest in foot and ankle surgery. For five years he was the head of the Department of Foot and Ankle Pathologies at CHU Bichat (Paris, France).

His position at CHU Bichat was followed by seven years as clinical professor at St Luc University Hospital (UCL, Brussel, Belgium) and head of the Diabetic Foot Unit. In 2010, he co-founded the Foot and Ankle Institute in Brussels (Belgium) and now has a team of three other surgeons and a research manager. The institute is the largest and leading healthcare facility in Belgium, with more than 12,000 patients and 1200 surgical procedures a year.

Dr. Leemrijse is a member of the Medical Training Centre in Luxembourg. In terms of research, he has been involved in the development and design of many now patented products in foot surgery. He has published various books on the pathology of the forefoot, is co-author of the Diabetic Foot , director of a textbook on foot and ankle pathologies at Elsevier Masson. He has published 28 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and has participated in the writing of more than 50 book chapters.

Guillaume de Viron – Chief Financial Officer

Under his belt, Guillaume has six years of process optimisation experience at Deloitte Consulting and ten years as CFO for different start-ups in the biotech industry (Artelis, Kitozyme, Masthercell, Univercells, OncoDNA,…).

He is also the founder of Belean.net, a shared service to master the growth of start-ups.

Paul-André Deleu – Podiatrist, MSc

Paul-André Deleu is a podiatrist and works as a clinical scientist at the Foot and Ankle Institute in Brussels (Belgium). He initiates, coordinates and supervises research on foot and ankle pathologies. His research interests are focused on foot and ankle surgery, foot orthoses, foot and ankle biomechanics and therapeutic footwear. He has authored numerous research publications, as well as book chapters covering various foot and ankle conditions, and delivered a number of lectures internationally. He is an active member of the International Society of Biomechanics and of the International Foot and Ankle Biomechanics Community.
Paul-André is an invited lecturer at the Parnasse-Isei School of Podiatry in Brussels (Belgium) and continues to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses for both allied health professionals and medical students at different universities.

Fr. Jean M. Brilhault – Orthopedic Surgeon MD, PhD

Orthopedic Surgeon specialized in Foot & Ankle and Senior Professor in Orthopedic Surgery and PU-PH at Tours University Hospital France. Senior member of the Société Française de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie (French Orthopaedic Society) and international member of the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS).

Dr. Sebastien G Demoiny, DPM

Dr. Sebastien Demoiny received his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2006. After graduating he completed an intensive foot and ankle surgical residency at Temple University Hospital. In 2010 Dr. Demoiny joined Healthstar Physicians, a multispecialty physician’s  group in Morristown, Tennessee, made up of 60 doctors, with Sebastien the only foot and ankle surgeon of the group. Dr. Demoiny serves on the Board of Directors at Healthstar Physicians and also serves as the Chief of Surgery at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown. He has stayed active in clinical education by serving as a consultant for various orthopedic companies and also assists in product development. In addition, he organizes several surgical training courses every year. Dr. Demoiny is board certified in foot and ankle surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He has also been designated as a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He actively serves as an editor for several book chapters, peer-reviewed journals, and has several publications out. Dr. Demoiny has also dedicated a lot of his time to humanitarian work, serving as a medical missionary in Haiti and Kenya.

Dr. Eduard Rabat

Dr. Eduard Rabat (Medical Director, MD) is a full-time orthopedic surgeon, specialized in foot and ankle surgery.

During his medical studies, in 1977, he began to work as an intern  at Barcelona San Rafael Hospital in the Orthopedic Surgery Unit directed by Prof. Antonio Viladot, one of the fathers of foot and ankle surgery in Europe. Ever since then the foot and ankle has been the main focus of his professional career.

After graduating from Barcelona medical school in 1980 he began his residency in orthopedic surgery at San Rafaele Hospital, and at the same time started to work with Antonio Viladot in his private practice at Clinica Tres Torres in Barcelona. They worked together for 15 years.
At the same time, he developed his professional career in different and important hospitals of the area, as an orthopedic and trauma surgeon but always with a great dedication to foot and ankle surgery. In 2000 he created the Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital General de Catalunya and since then all his time has been spent on the foot and ankle.

Today he is the director and founder of the Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital Quirón Barcelona and Áptima Centre clinic in the cities of Sant Cugat and Terrassa. In 2014, in collaboration with the Hospital Mutua de Terrassa Foot and Ankle Unit, the Spanish Foot and Ankle Society (SECMPT) recognized it as a unit authorized to receive fellows from all over the world. A large percentage of this surgical activity has been devoted to the development and improvement of minimal invasive techniques. Also, research on heel pain remains a constant in the team’s activity. The present team is composed of two additional members, one exclusively devoted to foot and ankle arthroscopy. In total the group performs more than 800 surgical procedures per year. Dr. Rabat has participated in a large number of international congresses and symposiums as a faculty member and invited speaker, and he has published papers and book chapters on the specialty.

Dr. Xavier Crevoisier

Prof. Xavier Crevoisier (MD) is a full-time orthopedic surgeon, specialized in foot and ankle (F&A) surgery. He graduated in 2001 from the University of Bern, Switzerland. After specializing in F&A surgery in Lausanne (CHUV), Zürich (Schulthess Klinik) and Rochester, Minnesota (Mayo Clinic), he returned to the CHUV and developed the F&A unit.

Today he is the founder and director of the University F&A center (yearly activity: 10,000 F&A patients and 1000 surgical procedures) and also head of the orthopedic unit of the Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery Department of the CHUV in Lausanne.

He is strongly involved in pre- and postgraduate teaching, has organized several local, national, and European-wide courses and is regularly invited as a speaker. He is also involved in the development and design of foot and ankle products and devices. Besides his clinical research, since 2008 he has conducted fundamental research, mainly on ankle arthrosis, during his ongoing collaboration with the EPFL. He is the author or co-author of 47 peer-reviewed publications and six book chapters.

Dr. Jean-Luc Besse

Dr. Jean-Luc Besse (MD) is a full-time orthopedic surgeon, specialised in foot and ankle surgery, at the Lyon-Sud University Hospital, France. After his medical studies at Alexis-Carrel Medical School–Lyon I University (1978-1984), he conducted his residency in surgery and graduated in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in 1989. He is qualified in Biology and Sport Medicine, Microsurgery, and animal experimentation. He served as assistant professor from 1995 -1999, and since then has worked as a hospital practitioner in charge of foot and ankle surgery.

He also has a PhD in Biomechanics/Biomaterials (Aix-Marseille II, 1995), certification to direct research (Lyon 2005) and belongs to the Lyon 1 IFSTTAR-LBMC UMRT-9406 Biomechanics Research Unit. Dr. Besse is past president (2011 – 2012) of the French Association of Foot Surgery (AFCP), and during his term he created the French Total Ankle Replacement Registry, which he still administers.

He is also a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, and Educational Committee Chairman of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS). He is associate editor of Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR). He has peer-reviewed 63 articles, participated in more than 60 book chapters, and received three awards for his published work.
